Thank you - and thank you to everybody else! I definitely could not have done it without the level of support and encouragement I have received from this forum. 🥰

I would make sure that you pick something (a hobby or achievement) which is actually interesting/stands out and would give opportunities for follow-up questions. I usually go with either running (I've completed a few marathons over the past couple of years) or acting (I initially studied...

Oh my god, I got the Pinsent Masons vacation scheme! Literally read the email thinking it was a rejection.

(This isn't in answer to your question but) I did the Walker Morris assessment centre last year - make sure you speak up in the group activity. My group allowed somebody to dominate (because she was a strong character and a paralegal with the firm) and we really suffered because of it (her idea...

Oh really? I've mentioned the pending budget in a few of my recent interviews - in the context of challenges for the firm/market. Ordinarily the budget wouldn't be *that* important. But given where we are in a recession, what the chancellor announces could well shape how (un/)successful economic...

*Finally* a PFO from IM (Manchester). Can't be too disappointed - it's the only firm this cycle I haven't progressed beyond the application. And it was a horrible application too!

There isn't a huge amount you can prep for a strength based interview (that's partly why they use them). You can prepare (to some extent) for questions concerning areas you are trying to improve. You could make a list of your strengths and weaknesses, so that you can describe them when prompted...

Phew, in the past 10 days I've done 2 video interviews, 2 assessment centres and a skype interview, on top of working and Uni deadlines. Safe to say that I am thoroughly exhausted! At least now all I have to do is wait.

Interviews just don't get any easier, do they? Have a Skype interview in an hour and I just feel so queasy with nerves!

    2020-21 Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion

Do you mean the difference between strength and competency questions in interviews, or just generally? If you're asking regarding interviews, the questions usually require a different structure to the answer. A competency will usually be asking you to describe (using STAR) a time when you've...

That would really depend on the firm. But bare in mind that while there may be less applicants (although not necessarily) there are also far fewer places available. In some cases, it's likely more competitive than in London, where opportunities are far more saturated.

Don't worry about it - I didn't secure one in my second year either. I barely passed any applications, in fact. I've done much better this year (results still pending)
