    Teams involved in fundraising

I currently work in corporate finance, where we do a lot of fundraising for private companies. The below is an example of a current deal: The corporate practice or PE/VC practice (depends on the firm) will run the deal on both the investor and the investee sides. For the investee, it has...

Hearing Back from Law Firms, Assessment Centres & Interview Tips - 2019 - 2020

Just received word that I have a place on Clifford Chance's open day next Wednesday (27th Nov)! Is anyone else going? It would be good to meet some of you

Hearing Back from Law Firms, Assessment Centres & Interview Tips - 2019 - 2020

Sorry to hear about the rejection, Alice. Every AC is a learning experience and although it is a shame you didn't get HSF, you will be better placed for the future moving forward. I think take some time for yourself today and then get back at it when you are ready; I have 100% faith that you...

    Least time consuming initial applications?

Other 'shorter' apps: (though shorter is very subjective here) Simmons (positions of responsibility - 250 words) Mayer Brown (500 word CL + extra-curriculars) Skadden (CL, positions of responsibility and hobbies - 250 words each) Linklaters (no application questions this year - just details...

    HSF 2019 Applications 'Topic Question'

A friend of mine wrote about the Iran nuclear deal and got through to the AC but also, when I went to a HSF event last year, they talked about someone they interviewed who wrote about their love of baking. I believe they are assessing a mixture of your writing and the reasons for your interest...

    Cover Letter

I have mine listed in a table. I've seen some people list them individually (usually if they didn't study too many modules per year), but I think it is cleaner to format it as a table.

I wonder if they might just be holding off on holding interviews so that they can review all applications?

I don't know how widespread this is, but I remember Latham's Winter scheme is only open to Law/GDL/LPC students/graduates

    Retrospective Funding

When I did my Kirkland AC, one of the trainees said that Kirkland had retrospectively funded both her gdl and lpc fees. I don’t know if this is company policy for all applicants though

    STAR method

I often feel that STAR can a bit too artificial as well, but I find if you alter the approach slightly and use CAR (context, action, result), it becomes much more like how I'd tell a story to a friend. This makes it feel much more natural and conversation-like for me

Sorry to hear man! With each AC, you’ll learn and grow a lot, so I’m sure it’s only a matter of time. Best of luck for Weil!

Fair enough, I think A&O are similar to Freshfields in that they have 50 vac scheme places across winter and summer, but 80-90 tcs overall

I'm in the same boat as you, mine says updated January 28th too. Regarding your question, my friend, who got the WG-invite in the first wave, said her portal says updated on the day she got the invite

    Hearing Back from Firms + AC & Interview Tips Share - 2018 - 2019

From my understanding, many UK firms take a lot of trainees from straight TC applications (e.g. CC, FBD, A&O, Linklaters, Slaughter and May, Travers Smith, Macfarlanes, NRF, Hogan Lovells, Ashurst), with a few exceptions (HSF, Clyde & Co, CMS), then many US firms take predominantly from vac...

    Hearing Back from Firms + AC & Interview Tips Share - 2018 - 2019

I think it's quite a frustrating thing. I think I know which firm you're talking about, and I know someone who got rejected post-AC there and then ended up going into the firm's office and getting feedback in person because she was especially keen to get her feedback

    Hearing Back from Firms + AC & Interview Tips Share - 2018 - 2019

When I did the telephone interview last year, it was strengths-based and I got asked: What keeps you motivated? What practice areas are you interested in? Time you took initiative? How do you build a relationship? If your senior colleague asked you to keep track of what might affect clients...
