    Hi all,

Does anyone know if we have to attach an actual letter of reference written by an academic referee? Or academic letter of reference is only required when we are applying for LLM programmes?

    Many thanks in advance!

@Helena Hi, yes--we can often attach additional documents to an application and I was wondering if I should attach a letter of reference written by the academic referee?
Generally a firm will ask for academic references if they want them. I would not do so unless requested. For example, Jones Day will not proceed with an application of interest to them without an academic reference and that is one they request on the basis of referees the candidate supplies on the initial app. This is done directly by the firm.

Specifically for university LLM/MSc/MA programme applications (not TC/VS/etc) if you have been given reference letters and you think they will add to your application, then yes I would attach (academic, professional or character).

For TC/VS, this is not necessary. Firm's will make contact direct as mentioned by Helena.
