I'm mainly looking for tips on i.) how to properly structure the cover letter and ii.) the key points I should touch on (about the firm) on my cover letter
The cover letter format should be the same as you would approach a normal cover letter, so:
Brief introductory paragraph (one paragraph)
Why commercial law?
Why Milbank ?
Why me? (A summary of how your experiences/extra-curricular activities makes you a good candidate)
Bullet points 2-4 don't have to be in that order and some students merge their points in 3 and 4.
I can't speak to your reasons for applying to Milbank as they should be personal reasons. Ideally, if you have met the firm before, this is something you want to flag up here.
Thank you so much Jaysen, this is really useful. One final question, based on the applications you've reviewed, would you say it is better to stick with the traditional one-page format or should I expand a bit?
