How to approach question - 'Share an experience where you demonstrated commercial awareness?'

Hello,

I am filing out an online application form, and I saw this question 'share an experience where you demonstrated excellence in commercial awareness' ? What does this question expect ? Can someone share an example of how would they answer this question?

I got asked this in an interview- was really not prepared for it but the way I went about answering was:

Whilst on a legal internship I had to make a presentation to an imaginary start-up company- this involved explaining what was happening worldwide which could have an impact on them
- at the time Uber was in court - could that have affected future start-ups eg how they are run? employment issues?
-were they a company that could be affected by the America China trade war? if so how?
etc.

I know this isn't detailed enough for an application question but that's how I went about answering it- I think the key is being able to select a time when you had to think about commercial/worldwide/political (etc) events and be able to form an opinion on it and understand how it may affect other things.

sorry if it's all a bit vague- it's a tricky question! Hope it helps a bit! It sounds like a very broad question though on the whole though so you have a lot of room to work in.

Thanks! I was thinking down the same track, but so far my work experience did not really allow me to make decisions that had something to do with macro thinking.... and this question was a question to vac scheme instead of TC
