Great article!
I find this entire process (the IPO, its timing with Valentine’s Day, competition with Match Group etc) really interesting. However I’m unsure how I’d explain WHY this interests me... Seems a little too personal to explain whether or not I use dating apps 🥴
Does anyone have any tips on how to link news stories to yourself when explaining why it interests you? I think saying the practice area interests me is a little too vague and I’d need to link it specifically to the news story. Just not sure how to for this story and other stories generally.
Thanks!
Hey
@Holly - just responding to you here so it's easier to find.
First of all, I actually think the best answers are personal, so I think you're on the right track here. Naturally, you only need to see what you feel comfortable saying - but perhaps it was interesting to you to read about the business model and trajectory of a company like this? Normally, when I think of IPOs/competition, I used to associate this with your traditional corporations, so perhaps this is why you found it interesting? It can be tricky to put into words
why you found something interesting, so I find it can sometimes help to ask questions to yourself e.g. why did you take note of this IPO rather than others? Why is the competition with Match Group interesting, compared to the competition that's prevalent in most companies?
I would actually lean away from discussing it via the practice area route, unless you had something notable to say there. Rather, your answers are going to be far more memorable if they're personal. It also means the follow-up questions may be easier to handle, precisely because they're based on something you genuinely found interesting.
