Corporate Law Career?

This has probably already been asked a lot so I apologize if it has already been answered. I was just wondering if there were any corporate lawyers in this subreddit that could compare and contrast the real life job to that portrayed in numerous television shows, including suits. I often hear that these types of lawyers hate their jobs, can't wait to get out, etc, and was wondering what it is really like. Furthermore, how challenging is it to reach the level of law practiced in the large firms shown in the show. As a person interested in potentially pursuing a career in law, if anyone could give me some better insights than what can be found on the web that'd be great. Thanks

It's not really like suits. There's a lot more paperwork/hard work/admin that Suits obviously doesn't show and going to court would only really apply if you're in a contentious seat (unless you're filing something) and even then it's at a much slower pace/not as dramatic/probably settled outside of court. Note - this doesn't mean commercial law isn't an enjoyable profession to be in, it's just a TV show that had Mike completing basic drafting exercises would be far less fun.

If you secure a TC with any of the top commercial firms you'll probably be working on multi-million-pound cross border deals. It is very competitive though - thousands of applicants apply each year for a small number of places.
