Case Study - 1 hour preparation time to read through a 40-page case study bundle (in this case insolvency) and drafting an e-mail to a Partner about a potential M&A Acquisition using the case study materials. Following that you have 1 hour interview with the partner on the issues arising from the case study.

IGNITE Case Study - 30 minute preparation time on a LegalTech case study (i.e. identification of a internal/external problem of the firm and having to come up with a proposal as to what LegalTech solutions can be implemented to solve it). Subsequently you will have 10 minutes to present your solution to the Partners and subsequently answer any follow-up questions as well as questions about your CV and motivations to work in LegalTech.

Please list any interview questions you were asked.

    1) Why do you want to apply for Clifford Chance?

    2) Why do you want to be a Trainee Solicitor?

    3) Why do you want to work in LegalTech?

    4) What threats are being faced by our clients?

    5) Tell me about a time when you had to work outside the box?

What is your best advice for each aspect of the assessment on the day? Please break this down for each assessment. This can include advice for preparation, as well as tips for the day.

    Case Studies:

    1) Quick Surveyal of the Material - there is more information in the booklets than there is time, so you have to know how to skim-read through the material and pick out the biggest issues in the case study.

    2) Structure - when there is a presentation, be sure to have a structure of the information and your presentation. Know which issues you are going to prioritize and why you are going to prioritize them in that way.

    3) Using the material - During the written exercise, be sure to relate back to the material as much as possible whilst also engaging with the question in a comprehensive and structured way. Tailoring your e-mail to the target audience is essential!

    Interviews

    1) Revise your application and your motivations - in these interviews, partners will pick up on things you might have stated on your application and also ask questions as to your motivations for applying the firm.

    2) Understand the firm's strengths and its services - part of the discussion in these interviews will relate to the firm's services and what it can offer to its clients.

    Were you successful?
