Baker McKenzie VS Application

Hello! I am working on my Baker McKenzie VS application and one of the questions is this:

Please tell us about a goal you set out to achieve. Why was this important to you and what was the outcome?

Does anyone know how to approach this question? I know it's best to use the STAR approach but what competencies are they trying to get out of it? Are they looking for a general life goal (e.g. to improve X skill) or a more specific goal (e.g. I had a goal to get a first class at uni)?

Any ideas will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

@Jaysen

    Hey!

    For questions like this the type of goal you choose matters much less than really breaking down each step you've taken and the competencies you've displayed while achieving the goal. So even if you do choose to go with a personal goal, like improving a certain skill, you want to be as specific as possible about the steps you took. In terms of what competencies they're trying to get out of it, some general competencies that always go down well are: time management, teamwork, working under pressure. You could also take a look at their recruitment website/brochure to see if there are any key skills they tend to value more in their trainees and try to draw those out of your example as well.

    Side note and I could be wrong about this but, because they're asking you about why the goal was important, seems like a personal goal of significant value to you might make the answer more memorable.

    I hope that helps :)
