Just to add to this these firms that dont have academic requirements at all:
Bevan Brittan - If no 2:1 degree then 3 years of commercial experience
BLM
Browne Jacobson
DLA Piper
Irwin Mitchell
Lewis Silkin
Osborne Clark
They send an email out to my cohort a few days ago reiterating that we can chose whether to sit in person at campus or online. However, I am on the online LPC LLM so unsure if this is just an offering for us being online students or if it is available to all.
There are pros and cons to both...
I have a bit longer than you before i finish my TC but I have been starting to look into life after TC and would be very interested in this discussion also!
Hey!
I'm a career changer too, currently in my second seat of my TC.
My main tip would be to really emphasise your experience and skills. Law firms are ultimately businesses so if you can show your understanding and experience it goes a long way! Think of the skills you have that can't be...
Hello All,
My firm are running a Virtual Insight event on the 25th October that I think a lot of you would be interested in.
This is not firm specific but geared towards anyone thinking of a legal career either in-house, Chambers or at a firm. It is very much not just another online careers...
I have used both of these study guides and personally i prefer the buddy. they are digital and you can type directly into them to update with your own notes to make a comprehensive set. The answered guides were very clear and i like the layout and you can have a hard copy or digital version but...
Just to jump in on this, for reassurance I started my TC in March this year and I am about to turn 35. You are never too old, don't underestimate the value of life and working experience
I understand your logic but couldn't advise as to less-competitive firms as a back-up as to you they may be a back-up but for others they could be the top choice. In my applications, I didn't want to train at a big city firm so didnt apply to any MC or SC. As i am a mature career changer with a...
I have just finished the PSC and you dont need to do any pre-reading so dont worry about it! Just enjoy the time you have until it all kicks in. Congrats!
Hey, Congrats on the AC! A basic SWOT is to evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of whatever they are asking you to do it on.
For example, a SWOT for a brick and mortar retail business could be:
Strengths - established, local knowledge of business, USP of company...
I got through to the final AC but no offer (for direct TC), excellent feedback then and there on the phone though which was really great. It was an annoying one as my feedback was that there was nothing to specifically improve on, they just weren't going with me. I was offered a support role on...
Just to jump on this, as Jessica said it really depends on your firm. I prepared a few smart outfits ready for my TC and now that I am here I am often the most formally dressed! Unless we are in court or meeting with clients, even the partners tend to wear hoodies etc. It is very much about what...
Hey, I went through this with Blake last year and it was actually rather fun, they are a great bunch! My only tip that i was complimented on was matching my presentation slides to the firm branding, the purple and I had the logo on each too, they really liked that!
The competencies were the...
Thanks James, I really appreciate it, particularly as I don't post very often! I am now a current trainee (as of yesterday!) so would love to donate my premium month to a particular member that I think would be able to make the most of it if at all possible. I will be in touch with Jaysen...
I would respond but leave it open. Thank you for your kind welcome and offer of a chat over coffee. I would really appreciate your insight into your role at the firm so please let me know when you would have availability/a few free minutes. Or something of the like
I just emailed with "i appreciate your consideration for a period of recognised training at FIRM, however I have accepted another offer (or reason, not that you have to say why!) and will be withdrawing from the recruitment process. Wishing you the best with your recruitment"
That is actually a great point, I have a new desk coming this week in readiness for starting my TC in March as the table I have been using is just not big enough and I am always running out of space!
