Hi buddy,
I would differ slightly from Dheepa insofar as I would only suggest talking about firm culture if you have a legitimate claim to understanding it. For example, if you've attended open days or insight events etc, you've got more of a backing to be able to discuss the firm's culture...
I tended to do a mixture of both.
Typically, I would open with re-covering and adding further detail to some of the headline reasons I had mentioned in the written application before then expanding on those and bringing in new reasons for the interview too. Try and structure your answer so...
Hey all,
further to this discussion, I've just released my "Definitive guide to Assessed Negotiations" within the Interviews Forum- I believe it's also currently being featured too. This will be a much more in-depth breakdown of the discussion on this thread! :)
Hi @Legal_Angels - I completely agree with everything above.
The key points to hit in your answer are communication, delegation, prioritisation and time management. This is also an opportunity to show work ethic, I've always mentioned as part of this answer that I would work extra hours where...
Hi All! Please see below my Guide to Assessed Negotiation Exercises at Assessment Centres and during Vacation Schemes. This guide has been built from my own experiences of assessed and real-world negotiations as well as having consulted with Grad Rec specialists.
This is also the first in a...
Hey Rhiannon,
Totally get where you're coming from, writing about virtual things can be much harder due to the issues you cite. I would personally consider things a little more holistically- what did you learn overall? Remember you still pick up skills from things like giving presentations...
You might consider me a "hired goon", but I'm the one here with a TC having had multiple VS offers taking my time to help others- including yourself, in spite of your rude attitude. I do hope you can temper it in time for any interviews you get, because in my experience, most interviewers can...
It's been a little while since I interviewed with CC, so I can't personally remember whether this is the case.
I would typically prepare a second example that you could use- even if the interviewer doesn't have that particular example in front of them, they'll likely take notes/ give feedback...
I think that's a very unusual reading/ interpretation of my previous comment.
At no point did I ever say that applying to a firm that wasn't one's dream firm was wrong: to only apply to one's dream firm would be grossly impractical, I think to presume that this is what I meant is borderline...
That's a very fair response- you didn't come over condescending, my advice to consider both options was a very genuine one! :)
I think, considering the nature of the two (being comparatively close career options), it is naturally an answer which would necessitate technicalities to a greater or...
In an industry where personal and professional integrity ought to be at the forefront of everything you do, I have to be honest and say that trying to play the system in this way really is poor form and will only end up putting you at a relative disadvantage to where you'd have been had you just...
Further to my above, they'd never favour you in this situation and would potentially even redact the offer. I would personally be extremely hacked off if I worked in GR and it became apparent that this was someone's motive.
As above, I would strongly recommend against this, precisely for the reasons Jessica has shared.
It carries a huge risk of actually doing you a disadvantage as many regional offices would simply interpret it as you undermining/ manipulating them to get somewhere 'better'.
Regional offices...
Hi Lauren,
When I was asked this, I personally identified common themes between groups of firms I'd applied to and then worked back to why each of these appealed to me in some manner.
For example, I applied to both Travers Smith and Slaughter and May, both similar in business model (single...
This is a great question. I was never personally asked this, but, as someone who has launched 2 businesses since starting Uni, I have been asked why I didn't want to become a career entrepreneur. The comparisons are somewhat different (law v entrepreneurialism and law v consulting) but I...
Hi, great question!
Personally, it's part of my job to be commercially aware as my primary source of income is from trading the financial markets, so I use certain websites which overlap with a lot of macroeconomic stuff which is less important for commercial law. To that end, my 'personal...
Hi,
In terms of my own approach to this section of the application, I generally gave a very brief outline of the experience through the lens of personal impact and skills gained. Personally I didn't use this section to make references to the specific place to which I was applying. Eg:
"Lawyer...
