    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

Hi all, strange question, but when you speak about the firm in your application do you use "your firm" or "the firm." i.e. "I admire how your firm...." or "I admire how the firm..."

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

Hi All, not sure if this is the right thread for this, but does anyone know if there is really any preference of the cover letter format? I've seen a lot of different templates online but I don't want to get too fancy and end up looking unprofessional. Also are we always required to put the...

Wow okay, what about university grades, I'm assuming you do not need to put every single module and grade? I was assuming I could just put that I acquired a 2.1 and also the percentage average of all three years?

For A-Level or equivalents would you actually put your grades in your CV? Or just what A-levels you did, as obviously we will be inputting the grades into the online application

Also to follow on my last question about CV's is it okay to not do bullets under work experience descriptions but instead a brief description of what you did and the skills you acquired?

Hi All, I was just wondering if it's necessary to put your secondary school, aka where you did your A-Levels or even GCSE's on you CV?

Yeah I thought there might be flexibility but what would you consider as "squeezing" like I'm just scared I'll be writing too much.

For Cover letters what is the standard format expected? Is it simply 12 point font, 1.5 spacing and times new roman font?

Hi all, I'm assuming Slaughter and May doesn't have an online test as that is not addressed anywhere on the website. However, is there one middle stage between the application and the assessment centre or is it similar to Macfarlane's in the sense that you go straight from the application to the...

Oh yes they are! Oh geez, I’ll always find it so weird that they take exams that you took at 16 into account. Over here in Canada/US jobs only look at your university grades. It’s been making applying very confusing haha

On my other applications I had to put my GCSE equivalent, however, this is the first firm that they're are asking for a document that explains it. However I think in this case it would be best to email the grad rec!

Hi all for those of you that applied to Macfarlands direct TC how long did it take you to hear back from them after the application?

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

no you were clear I was specifically asking about the other document m. Apparently it’s mandatory to submit it but I don’t have a document of such, but because I went to school outside the UK I need to provide something. Do you think this document also applies to A-level equivalents and not GCSE...

Thanks! However, for the breakdown of grades document, I just got an email from Slaughter and May stating that it's required to have an explanation of the grading structure for the school and/or university you attended, if non standard. They basically said my application would not be reviewed...

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

Hi All, so in the Slaughter and May application in the section where they say "your covering letter, cv and additional documents" would it be suitable to attach letters of recommendation for the additional documents? I have three really good letters of rec and I was wondering if anyone has done...

Does anyone happen to know which US firms just take CV/CL's?

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

Hi All, do you think it's still worth applying to Travers Smith? On the place to apply it states "Please note that due to the high level of applications received for training contracts from October 2019, we will now only be offering further interviews after our closing date of 31 July. Other...

I know this might be a vague question, but I was wondering if anyone knew when Macfarlanes hosts their ACs for direct training contract apps, i.e. if they do them after the VS's are complete, or just simply what months they usually do this? Thanks!

    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

Hi all, just a random question. But I'm assuming even though you mention a brief description of a work role in your work experience section, we're still allowed to go into more detail i.e. the skills we acquired, etc. in other sections of the application and it's not considered "repeating" as...
