That's.... bizarre.
This is why I didn't hang out much with law students at uni - some of you guys turn out weird 😂 😂 😂
No but in all seriousness, imagine describing your firm as a cult and expecting that to be a selling point like wtf
Edit: Obviously @OliviaBurn, you and the rest of...
@Celestie this one is for you :) but I'd really prepare for private equity-related questions as Sidley is big on that e.g. what is leveraged finance, why is leverage used in a transaction, what is carried interest, what is private equity etc. etc.
Put it this way, I wouldn't be too disheartened if they came back with a no... but obviously to caveat this, everyone has a different experience with a firm so obviously it's worth doing a vac scheme/open day if you can to make your own mind up about them!
Not rumoured haha they fired 25 lawyers in one fell swoop a few years ago (in 2018 I think it was). This RollonFriday article is pretty damming and there's a comment made by a Clearly associate (allegedly obviously) which makes it seem like he's/she's having a miserable life there :(...
Yep as soon as Cleary made all of their paralegals redundant a couple of years ago, I feared for every trainee at the firm and decided I was never ever applying there...
Ahhh guys I'm so sorry - really feel for you both :( Fingers crossed the feedback calls are useful and can give you some helpful guidance for your next ones 🤞
If I was to guess I'd say international arbitration given the nature of in-person hearings all over the world but obviously post-covid this could be very different...
You absolutely can apply for vacation schemes in your last year as well as direct TCs so do not worry!
If you don't get a TC after graduation then tbh you have the option to do what you like! Travel, paralegal work, get a part-time job whilst applying... you name it the world is kind of your...
Just to add my 2 cents to the above, for me I would highly recommend getting involved in societies and extracurricular activities. I'm a very keen sportsman and really tried to get involved with the law society and really enjoyed training/playing matches and working on the committee of the law...
Yeah I wouldn't worry about that, you can always correct yourself at interview if need be and since it's not a grammatical error there's no real point in my opinion
Totally understand if you'd rather not share, but how on earth was that allowed happen...?!?!?
Edit: just seen your later post, like did they literally question the validity of your disability? If so I am so sorry that you had to deal with that 😩 but very happy to hear your experience with...
That's probably how they'd attempt to justify it but there are soooo many other ways of testing that - it's just unnecessary and paints your firm in a terrible light in my view
Yes, as a general point, don't worry about repeating your examples from your app in your video interview at all - it's not a problem but obviously, feel free to add more depth/greater detail if the time allows!
