“Officially” I was supposed to be working about 2-3 days a week, which was initially set to Tuesdays and Thursdays and then switched to Mondays and Fridays to accommodate my class schedule. On average, I’d say I was doing some sort of work 3-4 days a week just because things really do sneak in...
Hey, I paralegalled at my MC firm next to my full time GDL this year and honestly wouldn’t recommend it if you can avoid it. Being a paralegal in a busy department with no consistency in workstream makes it even harder because your schedule is really at the mercy of the matters you’re on. I was...
I second this! I can imagine it might not be for everyone depending on your learning style but I definitely would recommend the GDL Answered ULaw book!
If I've already got a first class civil law LLB, a 2:1RG LLM and 2 years of paralegal experience (alongside the full time GDL), do you think they might be a bit more lenient? Appreciate that's a very specific set of criteria but I'm now freaking out because I am stressed about my last set of GDL...
Is this true though? I haven’t seen that anywhere. I thought the consensus was that the GDL is more a box-ticking exercise than anything else, provided you’ve done well at undergraduate level.
I'm by no means an authority but where the question is just a generic "tell me about yourself", my own style is:
-Hi, my name is X and I'm a graduate of X program.
-For the last (period of time) I've been working as X. Some of my responsibilities have included X.
-Prior to that I did (high...
Can confirm tomorrow is Freshfields day so very few people will be working and we’ve got Monday off. Tuesday will be spent catching up on work that’s come in on Friday and Monday. So don’t expect anything before the second half of next week :)
ULaw Moorgate GDL student here - all textbooks are available online via the portal, and you are also sent a physical hard copy of the textbooks before the course starts. So whichever is better for you :)
Also got a PFO from Gibson (as expected as they’ve never given a direct TC, haha) BUT treating it as a win as they said they were impressed with my application and strongly encouraged me to apply for their vacation scheme instead :) that’s the first bit of positive feedback I’ve gotten so far so...
I don't think I would recommend deferring your LLM to maybe try to source a paralegal job. I'm not sure where you are in your studies (law, non-law, LPC done or not) but even if you scored a TC in this upcoming cycle for a 2023/2024 start, you'd still have to do your masters which is a full year...
I'll prioritize direct TC applications from firms which are known to give a good number of direct TCs every year, and only do vac scheme applications for firms I'm really interested in that either don't have a direct TC route or are just not known for taking people through that route. Re taking...
I just want to add (as I've seen this question come up a few times already) that one thing people don't take into account is the fact that even as a paralegal, your workload can fluctuate a lot. For example, as a dispute resolution paralegal, I spent the first month of my GDL barely studying...
I'm not sure how much work the LPC is but I'm currently doing the GDL while working as a paralegal and I'd say avoid it if you can, especially if your firm is paying you a maintenance grant. I just really wouldn't recommend it, especially if you're doing an accelerated LPC. I'm coming to the end...
As Dheepa said, if this is a one time chance you get I'd say f** the applications and go! It's not in any way guaranteed whether you'll get an interview (or whether the interviews will even happen in that timeframe), and if you do get an interview and it can't be rescheduled, you can always...
