You really have to weigh up what is best for you. For some people that might be only applying for less to less than 5 firms due to their interests and requirements or other commitments. For other they may make over 20 applications as their interests are broad and they have more time to be able...
General themes why I have seen people not convert their VS to TC:
Arrogance/over confidence - it’s important to be confident on schemes but there are some candidates who just seem to think they are better than the rest of their cohort and that they will convert.
Lack of interest in the work -...
I don’t think the coffee chat is necessarily an issue.
The assessed work maybe more of a challenge, just because they can’t assess the third document. However, it was one third of the assessment, and there were two other assessments and so it is possible that there is enough strength elsewhere...
Don’t do it.
These are some of the biggest scams around in my opinion, especially if you are not being paid for the 12 weeks work experience because it’s most likely the case that they are being paid by the client for your time.
I have never known any recruiters to look at these courses and...
You’ve ultimately got at least another 10-12 months to find something else suitable then.
Until you take any financial support from them start any onboarding process for an SQE course they are contributing towards, you are not tied to the firm.
You can accept the offer, keep looking for...
For direct TC applications, you will be in a stronger position with legal work experience. You can still apply for TCs but you will need strong alternative employment with clear transferable skills and exceptionally well thought through career motivations (both for the career and the firm). For...
I would look at the job description carefully and try to ensure your answer is aligned to the responsibilities the role will have. I would also ensure the answer is aligned specifically to the practice area/sector focus the department has too and be able to show your motivations for this.
Do...
Unless a firm references something like "consistent academic excellence" as a requirement, I think you will be fine with most firms, especially if you are confident in the rest of your application. It is just one module and therefore most firms will look way beyond that.
Summer is generally bad for paralegal roles. It will likely pick up in September.
Think it is also general retention of more paralegals in roles though, in part where some are looking to qualify via paralegal roles and then because there aren’t as many people moving from role to role.
A few reason why I think it is actually a little more competitive these days (but only slightly - it’s always been competitive):
- SQE making the qualification process more open - this is making some people consider the career who might have been put off by the GDL
- Redundancies is other key...
I don’t think you need details of their matters to do this. You can look more at the firm’s strategy (eg markets/clients they target) and values to see how they approach work, which will be detailed on their website.
You won’t find out what they have done entirely for a client but you’d never need to know this anyway. Probably only client relationship partners know this level of detail.
it’s not common but similar terms do exist across a number of firms. It’s rare that a firm would recoup anything if they didn’t have an NQ offer to give you - generally is only if you turn down an offer they would.
Okay - you haven’t got much time to think about this then (unfortunately).
If you are not going to get commercial litigation experience during your TC, it will be very difficult to qualify into that area.
Given this, I think you have to consider carefully:
1) is this interest in commercial...
It isn’t that the universities discriminate but there are different support elements for those who are being sponsored through the course by a law firm (especially if it is a bespoke course or they are a preferred supplier), versus those that self fund.
Ultimately there is a third party paying...
