You absolutely don't need to do this in the work experience section but you may be asked this in interviews. I was asked about this in my direct TC interview in the context of my work experience at a boutique Indian firm and why I was motivated to not only move to larger, UK-based law firms...
Well done @lawful_neutral216 and congratulations on starting your new job! You may find that you need to tweak the way you make applications and schedule the work around it while working full time. I hope you allow yourself some wiggle room and treat yourself with kindness as you figure this...
Hi @lawful_neutral216! It's great to see how you've outlined your goals for this week- I really do hope you keep checking in with your progress and updating us on how you're going! How have you found the TCLA courses so far? I am also linking a couple of posts I've made on VIs and speaking...
Jack, thank you for sharing about your background and experiences! You have a fascinating perspective and I cannot wait to see how you progress with your applications and journey- wishing you the best and looking forward to reading more of your posts!
For this week, I would like to award the prize to @traineedreamer for their post here! Your ability to help a fellow aspiring solicitor with realistic advice while empathising with them is super commendable! Congratulations and I look forward to reading more of your posts in the future! 🙌
Could not agree more with what @traineedreamer and @alishaalexandra1 said above 🙌 All your experiences are incredibly valid and transferable and more than enough to make you a great candidate for a TC if you show the firm why these experiences are valuable, how they make you stand out and how...
In this case, I'd stick to 150 to be on the safe side! Shifting the focus to stating the skill and detailing how it'll be useful by tying it to the firm's ethos or trainee competencies may help you stick to 150. Let me know how you get on!
I think the question is in what context would this be relevant to your application to the law firm- how does this show that you're the right person for the job? There may be concerns about why you haven't gone into politics if you don't draw a clear link between your active interest in politics...
@ALYH those are super relevant issues to talk about. My top tips for picking current issues is researching the right sources that are well-suited to aspiring solicitors, like the FT, Watson's Daily, the TCLA newsletter etc.
The impact you discuss abolsutely does not have postive, as @Jessica...
I don't think this is an issue for the outcome of your application as you have the freedom to include whatever information you like. I wouldn't worry too much about this!
I am unsure if this is a disadvantage for you as I have seen people from all kinds of backgrounds thrive in commercial law, many of whom are non-native English speakers.
I make mistakes in my native language sometimes and feel like even native English speakers mispronounce words and use...
Add only that information that could directly impact your application, like mitigating circumstances, explanations for any gaps in your education/work experience etc.
Could be either, as Jessica said! The goal should be to draw the link between the issue and its impact on law firms and include more than just a surface level analysis of the same. While it is important, the example itself matters less than drawing out and evaluating this link.
You can totally write about this! My only concern here is of 'journalling' being misunderstood by the reader as a daily activity, which may make it seem less like a passion. You could consider using 'writing' more generally or 'creative writing' instead?
As for distinguishing between a passion...
Hi @Ooshmate! It seems like you know exactly what you want and have a good path charted for how to get there- this is not easy so very well done! Looking forward to seeing more of your posts!
Congratulations @cityhopes! 🥳🥳🥳 The fact that you're being so proactive with your application is really admirable and I hope that the TCLA scholarship is able to give you what you're looking for!
Hi @FizaAa! Congratulations on securing a TCLA scholarship 👏👏👏 It's great to see that you're so focused about what you want and I really hope we're able to play a part in your journey to secure your dream TC!
