Hi, I'd probably consult (if you haven't already) a few recent articles I've written which cover elements of all the issues you raise:

I've mentioned the story about my TC offer a few times (tl;dr got absolutely hammered when the phonecall ended).
My VS offers were a bit different though. The night I got my Travers VS offer, I was actually in the car on my own driving to Edinburgh to help present a guest lecture on trading the...
Personally, I would put them down. At the end of the day, they're skills you've worked very hard to achieve and should be proud of. If you feel you can truthfully and authentically justify why you're interested in those firms, it shouldn't be an issue!
I tended to answer it on two levels: first, why law in general, and then why commercial law as the specialism therein. I always tended to interpret it as why commercial law even where that wasn't explicit. Most interviewers would be more than able to ask a follow up of "why commercial law?"...
I can say without hesitation that this is a far more civilised/ restrained celebration than I had when I got my TC phone call... I was suffering for about 3 days afterwards (not great as I was also in the middle of a house move lol). In all fairness, it was a joint celebration for me and my...
Practice areas are mentioned in my case studies article too: https://www.thecorporatelawacademy.com/forum/threads/definitive-guide-to-law-firm-case-studies-monday-article-series.3232/
See in particular the mind maps and tables.
I've never applied to/ interviewed with Freshies so I really can't comment in particular. Probably more @Alice G's domain!
Suffice to say, in your research I would just choose an article which has a lot of wider repercussions/ relevance to a wide variety of practice areas and commercial...
Hi, glad you like the post! I think my other article on case studies might help here, have a look specifically at the mind maps and tables: https://www.thecorporatelawacademy.com/forum/threads/definitive-guide-to-law-firm-case-studies-monday-article-series.3232/
Hey, thanks for reaching out and glad you've enjoyed the articles!
I've personally not had any experience with Macfarlanes, haven't applied to them before, so I don't know a phenomenal amount about them in terms of really specific information. Suffice to say, based on my knowledge, you're...
Not a stupid question at all!
Like others have said, it is of no consequence.
Personally I didn't put up a post when I got vac schemes, but did when I got my TC offer/ when I accepted it. How you use LinkedIn is also very personal to you, too. I personally don't post much to it, aside from...
Not necessarily, it depends on the firm. I would say I've noticed a slight paradigm shift towards placing increased emphasis on VSs in the last few years but that is just a very general observation and is not remotely to say that firms are simply ignoring direct TC apps.
In re AS: I've personally undertaken one of their schemes, I know Chris somewhat well having done that and spoken to him sporadically a number of times. I think they're generally a great organisation doing great things for future lawyers. I've also always found Chris to be very pro-active and...
Who is it at AS you've tried to reach and can't?
In the past, I've known people to have issues getting contact in similar situations from certain AS staff who have reached out to Chris White directly and had much better luck, he is generally very proactive.
I've seem a few people asking about Travers today - there was some discussion of this maybe last week and one forum user kindly mentioned that GR had informed them they were running approx 3 weeks behind schedule due to WFH etc, and that communications should start coming mid-end February. Hope...
I'm not personally going to weigh in on the whole CC thing, I don't think there's much constructive stuff that I can add!
I've seem a few people asking about Travers Smith - there was some discussion of this maybe last week and one forum user kindly mentioned that GR had informed them they...
