I was going to ask the same! I've just accepted a TC and have a year before I start the LPC, wondering what I can do to keep the momentum/development going !
I've always been curious about this and I don't mean any harm or hate by this, because I love watching vloggers talk about their lpc and TC journeys, but do firms look down upon this? I've always wanted to dapple in this but have been too scared by clients/the firm judging me based on content...
I was gutted too after being in a similar position last year. My approach was to take a break from all things law job related for about a month or two. I knew I needed to rest before the next cycle. Then I went into the next year much more mentally prepared to tackle the cycle and to also take...
I was mooting officer at my uni, so hopefully my advice will be of use!
Research is a really key component of a good argument. Take textbooks out if you have access to them on the area of law and make sure you know what the leading precedent is. When picking cases to support your argument...
This was me last year. I had failed to convert and was absolutely gutted. I took a good chunk of time off from even thinking about applying to firms, but also knew that I needed to find the fight in me to go again next cycle. You've got this experience under your belt, which is incredible and no...
Hasn't this been a record breaking application cycle? I'm trying to remember if I've heard some firms say they've received more applications than any other year - like thousands more, can anyone confirm this? I wonder why that is if true...
I don't think it would hurt to flag it up with them, in case you do feel so ill you can't participate. Better to let them know earlier rather than wait until you feel so awful you have to sit out an important day. They would probably question why you didn't let them know sooner tbh.
I'm sure...
Is it bad that during an interview I said I've attended at least a dozen events hosted by law firms and legal careers sites virtually in the last year to work on professional development and commercial awareness? I am worried they might think I'm not dedicated to their firm, but I said I just...
Had a presentation with a partner and volunteered to answer a question, for some reason my brain froze at the end and I ended up not being able to get the words out right. Like I legit tried to say something three times and failed. How significant is this blunder?? I'm really embarrassed haha
I asked a partner a question and didn't say thank you after he answered accidentally, because he immediately launched into asking if there were any other questions, was this extremely impolite? It wasn't intentional, I hope I didn't ruin my chances of getting a TC! I did thank him when he left...
Hi Neville, thanks for sharing! I have a VVS this summer that I also had last summer, and was unsuccessful in converting. My biggest downfall was also in motivation - I did a terrible job explaining "why commercial law." Do you have any advice on how to polish the motivation answer? I've sat...
I have a vac scheme in about three weeks but I have non-stop uni work/research to do and I'm really freaking out that I'm not in the right mindset at all because I'm spread so thin, any tips?
Thank you, yeah it was very much back to back presentations and talks so there wasn't a lot of time. But asking to sit in on a client call is a great idea! Thanks!
I have the same virtual vac scheme this summer as I did last year. On the scheme we had a group presentation to prep in 5 days, and then a written assessment the following week - I'm wondering if I should've asked for more work? There weren't opportunities to really ask for work since we had the...
