    General Discussion Thread 2020-21

PFO from Bristows finally. Assume that means they’ve completed the video interviews now for those waiting to hear back.

Not just me then...hopefully that's some consolation for you. Yeah, they weren't competency based at all, more a test of thinking on your feet. The first question, I couldn't think of an example where I'd been in that situation. Managed to after the fact but had to go back about 14 years...

    Lewis Silkin Application

Anyone done the VI? How did you find it? As for this question - I structured into key themes and included examples.

Not even heard post-app other than a holding email. How was the VI? Anyone have any advice for S&S VI and tests? Also MdR VI?

Did the VI for Lewis Silkin earlier. One piece of advice, don’t waste time prepping...just dive straight in. Not the sort of questions you can realistically prep for. I spent the day preparing competency examples but they were useless. At least they’ll be useful for others. They did say in the...

Applied on deadline day - left it late as wanted to leverage the sports law academy.

MdR VI - it’s been so long that I was anticipating rejection so that’s a nice surprise. Three to do this weekend now though so going to be busy...

I keep getting email reminders re: a video interview and they’re saying I need to complete it before the deadline to increase my chances. The issue is I am away on a work trip so am planning to complete it at the weekend. Is it worth sending HR an email to let them know?

Hearing Back from Law Firms, Assessment Centres & Interview Tips - 2019 - 2020

I managed to find some info via google previously re: format and types of questions. Think there was an old thread on TSR. Congrats btw and good luck.

Hi Jessica, Any advice for a situational judgement test? Thanks.

Yeah. There were a few things I could’ve done better on the app in hindsight. This was earlier on in the law journey and I don’t think I’d quite nailed the why law, plus my extra curriculars were all worky things. I also applied the day before the deadline, which may not have helped. But my...

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

I went to an open day at a firm and was contacted saying I’d made a good impression and to definitely apply. I didn’t get through the sift.

Thanks - I am wondering if I am overthinking it. Do you think they just want a description of what I think that means? It’s only a 200 word question. I suppose one example might be if there is a case where they advised a client to settle, even though they would’ve likely won, due to other...

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

Hi Jessica, Do you have any advice about how to approach the following question: What do you think it means to deliver legal advice in a commercial way? My thinking was to cover 3-4 main points, including an example of a case relevant to the firm (if one works in this context) and an...

Help needed: application questions about a firm's clients...

See if any of their clients are HQ’d in the north east that wouldn’t be covered by another office? Do any of the articles about deals talk about which offices/teams were involved? It might be worth giving HR a call, it may be that they’re not expecting you to choose a client that’s definitely...
