I did mine yesterday afternoon and have just received an invite to VI. So must be pretty swift. Also suggests they review apps quite intently pre-tests, given how much longer it got to get the test invite.
For those seeking info in future (I was asking yesterday) the test was 30 minutes and the...
Any general advice for the Watson Glaser? Is it the same format for all firms? How long does it take typically?
I'm doing one for Baker M. and have done some practice tests, not finding them too bad. Have just done the Clifford Chance one and found that although it gives 50 minutes, I was done...
I’ve done this with a couple of practices areas for certain firms, one I’ve semi-experienced (though not as a lawyer) and referenced that experience. But I’ve gone on to point out that I’m open minded about practice area ultimately (linked it with them being a full service firm and why that’s...
Did you have the academics?
I got the test link but the deadline to complete is the 21st and they’re saying they’ll email re: outcome for next stage by the 20th.
I applied on the day before the deadline.
Not sure whether they progress most. Have seen some pre-test rejections though.
Yet to receive the link to test but they did say it would be a few days.
I am applying to an international firm, which has a number of regional offices as well.
One of the questions asks why them and why the location. I'm applying for London, so should I approach it in the same way you would if explaining your connection to a region if applying to a regional office...
Just got an invite for the Watson Glaser test.
And for info there were several places to mention mitigating circumstances/explain your education outside of the cover letter.
That’s useful and interesting - thanks. Just out of interest, do you think that causes issues with diversity or maybe has done in the past, or could potentially mean the opposite?
Yeah, the minimum standard is based on the competency they’re testing being “reasonably met”. This used to be scoring 3/5 and you had to score at least a 3 for all of the competencies tested to be considered. It then changed to being out of 7 with a 4/7 being the standard. The competency...
Fair enough, that's interesting to know. Is that in terms of the percentage of applicants who get a place in law vs Civil Service? I guess there would be a smaller pool of applicants for law. I do think a training contract is tougher to get but I guess that's not the same thing. I may also be...
I was on the Civil Service Fast stream. Starting salary was £31.5k but varies by department, some paid more but they’re all around the £30k mark (this was back when I graduated 7 or so years ago so may well have gone up). The trouble is there isn’t much scope for increase...the average career...
On this subject. I got a place on a spring workshop (since cancelled) and the app for the TC is exactly the same. Would they be expecting me to make significant changes given the app is the same and it’s only two months later?
When offering a VI they described my application as “particularly...
Hi Jess,
I have some mitigating circumstances that impacted my first and part of second year grades. But overall still got a 2.1 because first year didn’t count (averaged 65 due to doing well in 3rd year which counted for 2/3s of my grade).
A TC application asks about extenuating circumstances...
I'm so sorry to hear about this and hope you make a full recovery. Some things really put life into perspective. I'm not a recruiter but I would have thought an exceptional case like your would be a prime candidate for a deferral to a later year if that would work for you...but you probably have...
