Does anybody have any experiences applying for vac schemes as a graduate?
I just graduated and plan to apply for as many winter vac schemes as I can, but it feels odd as a graduate. I'm also not "doing anything" right now apart from sport and am worried it could come up in an interview, should...
@Jessica Booker
Do you think giving two sets of mitigating circumstances could be cause for concern to a law firm?
They are well-evidenced and supported by a letter from my university. However, they are for 3 modules that are all low 2:1 but were out of line with my other grades. Do you think...
@Jessica Booker NRF requires "demonstrable legal work experience" for their direct TC. Do you think volunteering at Citizens Advice is sufficient? or are they looking for something more along the lines of a previous vacation scheme, paralegalling and so on.
@Jessica Booker For BM's application they ask about 3 skills and examples of how you built them. They also have a competency interview which as far as I can find, is not CV blind. Is it fair to expect that I will repeat some of the examples used in my application form? Given that I will have...
Just a note, it is good to end with something really interesting about yourself, sticks in the interviewer's mind more and makes you seem interesting haha.
@Jessica Booker I saw you answer how to approach "tell us about something that excites you" and you emphasised the fact it doesn't need to be legal, or commercial, and they make that quite clear in the phrasing.
Would it seem disingenuous to talk about something relevant to the firm's key...
I think there is merit to both points. On one hand, many firms are CV blind, or simply wont particularly care about the gap. But it is very possible some firms will. I'm pretty sure having a look through the premium database there are some interview where a gap is questioned, but it could be...
Is it a crazy idea to graduate and just spend the year focusing on VS and TC applications? lol
I feel like preparing for an AC, as well as the sheer volume of applications I could write without any academic commitments would help me immensely.
Attending a few open days is always part of my story of why commercial law. At a few ACs I've had a partner ask me "why not US firms then" since those are the ones I mentioned, but as long as you can explain why you dont specifically want to work at those firms, but rather how they broadly got...
Hi, thanks for the reply. I understand that strategically some firms have a higher percentage intake from direct TC, I just find it hard to imagine a firm offering me a TC without ever having seen me work, or knowing that I've done a VS. I can imagine so many interview questions revolving around...
@Jessica Booker As someone who hasn't done a VS, how much more difficult will it make securing a TC through a direct application as a finalist?
I do have a fair amount of legal work experience, just nothing directly related to commercial law. The closest I have is 2 weeks working in-house at a...
