Hey! I did two first-year schemes at magic circle law firms last year (not SPARK though!)
Any experience where you are demonstrating responsibility and exhibiting skills that would be transferrable to a trainee is valuable. Think about organisation, teamwork, resilience, attention to detail...
Im assuming they already have a section for you to fill out your grades - in that case, you are right.
you could mention a grade that is exceptionally high / you view as an outstanding achievement. But for the most part I think it’s better to mention extra curriculars / volunteering / hobbies...
Because you referred to firms, I’m assuming your ambition is to join a commercial law firm.
It is a bit of an odd question because MANY people from UCL go on to secure training contracts - you are already in a competitive position by being there. You will, within your first few months there...
Hi @Lawbour, sounds like you have a great amount of experience under your belt. I would recommend researching which firms primarily hire from their direct TC, VS/TC, or exclusively VS. I know TCLA did a list of this last year, and I imagine will be done again this year.
e.g. A&O hires roughly...
Obviously, not @Jessica Booker but can chip in on this question.
I graduate with a non-law degree in June 2022. My firm (member of the CCPP) has told me the soonest I could join the firm would be August 2024 via the SQE. So it is about 25 months (without factoring in the breaks in-between and...
Agreed! Knew a few people in the year below me who applied early and regretted it.
Join societies, do some volunteering, play some sports and you will be in a much stronger position!

The 5 forces are great for your business acumen and for analysing the straightforward...
(1) I heard back in a couple of days 1-2 years ago. It depends on the time of year but I do not think that it would be too long. I think they called me to let me know that I am in.
Right, I got that impression as well... but it is so candid! I think he's written it in a way that does seem like he's blatantly tried to do what you're saying, but there's enough room for doubt that you can't say for sure. Perfection??
Really interesting article on the detrimental impact bitcoin has upon the environment - something often overlooked.
A quote that really stood out to me:
“Bitcoin alone consumes as much electricity as a medium-sized European country,” says Professor Brian Lucey at Trinity College Dublin. “This...
From my experience with Middle East TCs - Yes, there are fewer applicants. But there are far fewer spaces in comparison to London. Out of Linklaters' large intake (100?) only a handful of those would be London-Asia future trainees. So it could be less competitive, or about the same. You just...
I've never been in this specific position - and ultimately, you know what is best for you. But when I have been in similar ones, I take refuge in the fact that by the end of the week, it'll all be over. Sometimes you just have to push through, but at the same time, be cautious of your mental...
