I understand your frustration. I find that the outcome of so many of those interviews (i.e. the not purely commercial/technical ones) is based on how the candidate gets on with the interviewer, which is obviously hard to pinpoint objectively..

You’re more likely to be asked what other firms you applied to and why in an interview, if there’s a reason why you chose English firms maybe bring that up :)
I think as long as you are able to make the answer interesting you’ll be fine. Could always start with something along the lines of “taking the deal/news story I discussed earlier, I think that…” or smth like that
