The Corporate Law Academy (TCLA) was founded in 2018 because we wanted to give every graduate the same opportunity to build a career in commercial law.
We don’t want your ability to access great ideas to be governed by your background, connections or location. With the power of an online community, you have a tribe, a voice to your concerns, an opportunity to feel less alone, a group of people who are there to celebrate your success and support you during your lowest moments.
We exist to break down those barriers, and to make the process of becoming a commercial lawyer more transparent and accessible. Through training and support, our community helps aspiring lawyers get to where they want to be.

The future of TCLA
Our long-term goal is to create an online law school that transforms legal education. We can do this more cost-effectively, more transparently, and in a way that’s more relevant to the needs of aspiring lawyers. It shouldn’t be the case that legal education after university is something to simply ‘get through’. We want to deliver training that is not only enjoyable but also provides substantive value to your legal career.
We chose not to take outside funding because we want to remain accountable to our customers, not external investors. We aim to grow in a sustainable way and remain responsive to the needs of aspiring lawyers.
To achieve our goals, we want to produce courses taught by the best lawyers and professionals across a variety of firms. We also want to make the TCLA forum a hub that is able to support every aspiring lawyer considering a career with leading global law firms.
Each year, we aim to upskill thousands of aspiring lawyers, nationally and internationally, helping them evolve from student to trainee solicitor. Ultimately, we hope to become the home for all aspiring commercial lawyers.
A message from the founder
Jaysen Sutton, Founder
It has been three years since I left my training contract at a US law firm. It’s incredible to see some of the earliest TCLA members are now associates at the biggest law firms in the City.
I started up TCLA because I found it strange that there is so much support when it comes to securing good grades at school or university, but it’s hard to find the right guidance thereafter. The quality is variable, the information is fragmented, and there isn’t enough support for dealing with the tough stuff – the days when you are on the brink of giving up.
If you’re new to the legal journey, I want to say a huge welcome. If you have doubts about whether you can do this, you should know you are not alone. Thousands have been where you are today, and it’s our job to show you that many of the doubts you may have right now can be overcome.
TCLA is all about teaching you the skills you need to become exceptional. We’ll help you to celebrate your achievements and the obstacles you’ve overcome to get where you are today. We want you to question the assumptions you have right now about your capabilities, and we’ll encourage you to think for yourselves.
The legal profession is changing quickly and it’s you guys that will be responsible for changing the standards and attitudes. We’re here to help you get there.
